Getting around the city

The town has a generally efficient network of electrical minibuses, called navette, which speed around the town's peripheral streets. Nevertheless, most probably you won't need their services since Lucca is very easily covered on foot.

The local train station is situated within walking distance from Porta San Pietro. There is a minibus - No 16, which connects the town centre with the station. Since Lucca is very well positioned on the road between Florence and Viareggio, it benefits from many train connections. There are 21 trains running each day from Florence, Pistoria and Montecatini Terme. The ride from Florence takes approximately 80 minutes. Lucca is very well connected via train to Pisa as well. There are 24 trains running daily to Lucca, and the trip takes only around 30 minutes.

The local bus station is situated at Piazzale Verdi. It is well connected to Florence, Pisa and other destinations. Lazzi buses depart every hour from Florence and Pisa. It takes around an hour to get from Florence to Lucca and 50 minutes from Pisa. Lazzi buses furthermore run to Bagni di Lucca, Forte dei Marmi, Lago di Torre Puccini, Viareggion etc. the other company - CLAP also has convenient connections to Forte dei Marmi, Bagni di Lucca, Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, Collodi, Massa, Pescia, Viareggio and Barga.

Car

Car

Arriving by car to Lucca from Florence, take the motorway A11, which goes through Prato, Pistoria and Montecatini. If you are arriving from Pisa then get on SS12, which goes straight to the city.
